Welcome to the home page for the Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ, a painstakingly restored late 19th Century mechanical pipe organ housed in the Barossa Regional Gallery in Tanunda, South Australia.

The Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ are a group of like-minded music lovers who help to maintain, promote and contribute to the rediscovery of this great musical artefact. We hold concerts and events not only with the Hill & Son Grand Organ, but also across the many other beautiful pipe organs in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

On these pages you can learn more about the Hill & Son Grand Organ and its restoration, and view a gallery of beautiful images alongside short clips of the organ in action. You can also find out about upcoming events being held by the Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ, as well as information about contacting us and becoming a member.

Thank you for visiting our site, we look forward to meeting you!

Organ Tours are Back!

Hi everyone! It’s been a long few months, and we haven’t been able to start our concerts as yet, but we are excited to let you know that our tours are back up and running! The Barossa Regional Gallery is currently open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, meaning our Wednesday tours are now available! If you’d like to come and hear our beautiful organ, check out the Events page to find out about our tour, giving you a sound taste, a talk about the instrument, and a tour of the organ to see it ‘up close and personal’.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Important Announcement Re: Concert Cancellations

Friends, circumstances are changing rapidly and, in light of the current situation, Barossa Council has made the difficult decision to close the Barossa Regional Gallery for the forseeable future. This means that all current scheduled events at the Hill & Son Grand Organ have now also been cancelled, including:

– Handel’s Messiah
– A Night at the Silent Movies
– Coma Improvisation Concert
– Hymn Festival
– ‘Tour, Talk, Taste’ Tours of the Hill & Son Grand Organ every Wednesday.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Steve, our Secretary and Organ Curator (secretary@barossaorgan.com), or Treasurer Kat (treasurer@barossaorgan.com). More information about Barossa Council facilities and services affected by recent changes can be found here: https://www.barossa.sa.gov.au/…/…/news/managing-covid19-risk

The situation is evolving as we speak, and we hope to have more positive news in coming weeks. Rest assured we are still here, and looking forward to the time when we are able to bring you beautiful music ‘On the Hill’ once more! Until then, stay safe and well, and take care of each other. Remember, we are all in this together!!!
