Welcome to the home page for the Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ, a painstakingly restored late 19th Century mechanical pipe organ housed in the Barossa Regional Gallery in Tanunda, South Australia.
The Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ are a group of like-minded music lovers who help to maintain, promote and contribute to the rediscovery of this great musical artefact. We hold concerts and events not only with the Hill & Son Grand Organ, but also across the many other beautiful pipe organs in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.
On these pages you can learn more about the Hill & Son Grand Organ and its restoration, and view a gallery of beautiful images alongside short clips of the organ in action. You can also find out about upcoming events being held by the Friends of the Hill & Son Grand Organ, as well as information about contacting us and becoming a member.
Thank you for visiting our site, we look forward to meeting you!
Christmas Concert Cancellation
The last week has been very challenging for everyone in South Australia, with increased Government restrictions and COVID Safe Plan requirements now in place across the state. Regretfully, this has made holding concerts at the Barossa Regional Gallery unworkable at this time, and it has become necessary to cancel our “Organ-ic Flavours of Christmas” concert planned for 5 December 2020.
Rest assured that if you have purchased tickets via Eventbrite, you will be refunded in the next few days, with our thanks for your support of this event. We know how much you were looking forward to it, as we were.
While we have seen a concert-less 2020, we are looking forward to some great concert events with the Hill & Son Grand Organ in 2021. We at the Friends thank you sincerely for your ongoing support and enthusiasm, and wish you and all your loved ones a safe and peaceful Christmas.
Organ Tours are Back!
Hi everyone! It’s been a long few months, and we haven’t been able to start our concerts as yet, but we are excited to let you know that our tours are back up and running! The Barossa Regional Gallery is currently open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, meaning our Wednesday tours are now available! If you’d like to come and hear our beautiful organ, check out the Events page to find out about our tour, giving you a sound taste, a talk about the instrument, and a tour of the organ to see it ‘up close and personal’.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Soaring Sounds – the perfect gift!
Soaring Sounds, an exciting recording of the Hill & Son Grand Organ, by acclaimed Sydney organist David Tagg, is available for purchase, and we love it! A wonderful collection of beautiful works from across the musical spectrum, David brings the Hill to life in pieces by Handel, Bach, Saint-Saens and more. The power and the majesty, the gentle beauty… it’s all here, in a high quality CD recording made right here in Australia.
